This blog exists because too many Deaf+ students are evaluated for placement instead of given meaningful access they are often overlooked.

Hi my name is Janey and I am a special education teacher and emerging researcher who works closely with Deaf+ students. Deaf+ students are learners who are Deaf or hard of hearing and also have additional disabilities. In my time in special education and Deaf education, I have seen many times that there are classrooms, IEP meetings, and systems that are meant to support Deaf+ students. And many times I have seen the same issue surface: access is often defined by compliance, paperwork, or setting, rather than by communication, belonging, identity, or agency.

This blog is my space to think, write, and ask better questions about what access really means.
